PROJECT Google Certificate Program
ROLE UX Designer
DURATION March - April 2024
The goal of this project was to design an audio-tour app for an art gallery. When deciding on which direction I wanted to take, I took inspiration from a local art gallery near me. I decided to design an app for Carmel Arts Association with the intent on having audio-tour capabilities.
Context
Users need a way to use an audio-tour app that prioritizes accessibility as well as being user-friendly. This is because when experiencing an art gallery those who are visually impaired or speak a different language have a hard time following what's being presented.
The Problem
The Goal
To give users a simple, intuitive, and accessible way to experience a local art gallery.
Research
The goal of this project was to design an audio-tour app for an art gallery. When deciding on which direction I wanted to take, I took inspiration from a local art gallery near me. I decided to design an app for Carmel Arts Association with the intent on having audio-tour capabilities.
Competitive Analysis
So far there are no direct competitive apps that offer audio-tours for Carmel Arts Association, but there are apps like The Art Institute of Chicago and Bloomberg Connects that offer audio tours of larger art galleries as well as museums and gardens. It was interesting to go through the reviews to see what users liked as well as disliked.
I also referred to Google Arts & Culture, Spotify, and Audible as core examples of widely used apps that get a lot of user traffic. Seeing the commonalities within their design as well as things that set them apart helped me decide what layout and orientation would best suit my product.
Building Empathy
Using qualitative and quantitative data, I designated three target group profiles. Joon (student, 22) and Lisa (retired, 67). To better empathize with my main user groups and target their goals according to their needs.

Information Architecture
Based on information and insights gained from initial content audits as well as user research, I identified the mobile app sitemap. I created a tree structure, first using notecards. Once I was happy with the parent/child hierarchy I converted it into a digital tree.

Wireframes & Prototypes
Based on information and insights gained from initial content audits as well as user research, I identified the mobile app sitemap. I created a tree structure, first using sticky notes. Once I was happy with the parent/child hierarchy I converted it into a digital tree.
Paper Prototype
In order to quickly test the general structure and overall user flow of my app. I included how I wanted the drop downs to function and from here I was able to tighten up my design before creating a clickable low-fidelity prototype.

Low-Fidelity Prototype
In order to quickly test the general structure and overall user flow of my app. I included how I wanted the drop downs to function and from here I was able to tighten up my design before creating a clickable low-fidelity prototype.

In my design I initially wanted to include a map of the art gallery, but decided it was an unnecessary design feature that could be cut and replaced with a favorites section where the user can favorite exhibits and artists.
